Colostomy stoma

Colostomy stoma is the skin of the mobile part of the colon. Children from birth can also undergo surgery requiring the creation of a stoma or digestive tract. The stoma, comes from the Greek word "stoma" which means mouth, and is the surgical anastomosis to the skin of part of the digestive or urinary system.

The management of intestinal stomas (colostomy, ileostomy) and urine (urostomy) presents some differences. To better understand your stoma, how to sail, live with, see the chapter that applies to your type of colostomy. Sixty to eighty thousand people live in France with a stoma. Many women work, do sports, travel and maintain a family life and a social life. A stoma will not stop you to have a normal life.

A digestive stoma is the anastomosis of the intestine to the skin of the abdominal wall either temporarily or permanently. Substances and gases are evacuated by the stoma and because the emission control is not possible, the wearing of a collecting bag is absolutely necessary. A urinary stoma is direct or indirect the anastomosis of the ureters to the skin by one or two holes located on the abdominal wall. The water flows continuously through these openings. It is therefore essential to one or two pockets of code.
