Colostomy reversalColostomy is a surgical procedure of creating an artificial opening between the colon and abdomen (artificial anus). Colostomy is a surgical opening through which a small portion of the colon is removed. This opening, called stoma, allows stool to be evacuated directly outside the body without passing through the damaged part of the colon. After a colostomy, feces pass through the stoma, the opening on the abdomen, and are collected in a pocket. The colostomy may be temporary or permanent. The loss of voluntary control of the intestine requires a lot of attention to the consistency and frequency of stools of the colostomy.
